Holiday Take Out, Dessert, or Fresh Produce?

Check out these four local suggestions for this 4th of July.

Whether you’re headed to a holiday festival or celebrating at home, there is a big question to be answered; “what are we going to eat?” At least that has been the topic all week at my house. So here I’m sharing our narrowed down options and hopefully will serve as inspiration or ideas for your family as well to answer that never ending question.

The first decision is whether to cook at home or order take out. My husband loves to cook for holidays and fresh produce is key for a delicious celebration meal. For this reason, picking produce from a local garden was a must. Luckily, Huerta Del Valle have us that wonderful inspiration. You can schedule a weekly or biweekly fruit and veggies pick up here in Ontario for only $30 per pick up! Now that’s a great deal for locally grown produce.

Our second choice for dinner was take-out at Birrieria Xolos on Euclid Ave. Here you can choose to have birria is a taco, hard shell taco, burrito, or even in ramen! I’m always up for a twist to tradition foods. You can order to pick up or schedule a delivery to you. What’s better than getting warm food delivered right at your doorstep when you’re busy setting up a celebration at home? Not much, right?!

But let’s be honest. Sometimes our younger kid’s don’t really appreciate the wonderful flavors of “adult” food. That’s why Lisa’s Market would be our next stop. At Lisa’s you can shop at their small market for your last minute grocery needs and get delicious sandwiches in the same place! They even have a party sandwich tray. And truth be told, although the word sandwich might not sound like a party food, a sandwich at Lisa’s will not be your ordinary sandwich experience. They have that fresh deli taste and are generous with your choice of meat. If you’ve never tried their sandwiches before, you probably won’t want to shop for sandwiches anywhere else after this. Did I mention, they are do delivery.

Lastly, but almost most importantly, is the dessert decision. After much though our winner was My Delight Cupcakery on Mountain Ave. They are Ontario’s favorite cupcake place for all the right reasons. Now is the perfect time to preorder your 4th of July cupcakes up until Saturday July 3rd. The Berries N’ Cream is the flavor of the week and their 4th of July week flavors includes firecracker, campfire, cherry limeade, sundae smile, circus animal cheesecake, vegan orange creamsicle, gluten free peach cobbler, vanilla and chocolate motif. Did you know, they also bake dog cupcakes? Treats for the whole family!

Whatever you choose to eat this 4th of July, remember to treat yourself to some of your favorite foods. Bon appétit!
